Chris Andersen WomenLead Scholarship Recipient: Anna Schuster
Anna Schuster can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to be a doctor.
“Although I cannot pinpoint a specific experience when I identified medicine as my career path,” she says, “I can clearly see how God has deepened my commitment to pursuing a career in medicine throughout each season of my life. God has fostered my strong desire to reach people who are broken and hurting–individuals who are searching for physical healing while in need of spiritual restoration.”
This fall Anna begins her studies at the West Virginia School of Medicine in Morgantown. Accepted to the school’s Rural Track, she’ll focus on understanding the geographic barriers, substance use, poverty, and lower health literacy rural communities face.
“I feel led to practice primary care in underserved areas with the goal of providing care for the mind, body, and spirit, while amplifying the voices of those overlooked by society,” she says.
“I would like to offer my sincerest gratitude to the donors who made this scholarship possible,” she says. “I view it as an investment in my commitment to serving others through medicine. I greatly appreciate the support as I embark on my medical school journey that will pave the way for my career as a physician.”
The Chris Andersen WomenLead Scholarship recognizes the need for diverse leadership in ministry, nonprofits and civic organizations and seeks to accelerate the extraordinary leadership of diverse women of faith to lead change by using their talents to educate, advocate and activate.
