Thrivent Charitable Community Scholarship Recipient: Alivia Baumgarn

Thursday, August 4, 2022 - 09:37

When choosing her career path after high school, Alivia Baumgarn looked no further than her aunt who is a long-time teacher. “Watching her light up when she interacts with and talks about her students is inspiring,” Alivia says.

This fall, Alivia, will attend Augustana University in Sioux Falls to study communication disorders with the goal of becoming a speech-language pathologist. She dreams of getting a job at a school where she can also coach basketball.

Alivia says, “In my lifetime I hope to change as many lives as I can. I especially want to change the lives of the younger generations. Everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect, and I hope to change the lives of those around me like the people around me have changed mine.”

To the donors who made her scholarship possible, Alivia says, “This scholarship helps me in multiple ways, and I could not thank the donors enough! They are changing lives by providing aid for college and most importantly they changed my life.”

The Thrivent Charitable Community Scholarship is made possible through our Field of Interest Fund and was established to benefit students who are members of congregations that hold active organizational endowment funds at Thrivent.

Alivia is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster, S.D., where she taught vacation Bible school and Sunday school.

Donors have the opportunity to create their own scholarship fund, make a grant to our Field of Interest Fund in Education from their donor-advised fund or give directly to their church’s endowment fund.
