Health & Human Services Impact Fund

This fund supports programs and services seeking to improve people's health and/or address basic needs. You can collaborate with Thrivent Charitable and other donors to make the change that matters most to you.

The Black Church Food Security Network (BCFSN) is a crucial organization growing an asset-based community development approach to further food security and food sovereignty in historically marginalized communities, primarily through partnership with Black farmers and faith-based organizations.

BCFSN was able to expand their food-value chain beyond the Mid-Atlantic by connecting Black farmers and churches from New York to Florida under a new name - The A.R.C. Project (Assembling Our Resources for Community Sustainability). BCFSN formalized a partnership with the Balm In Gilead organization which for the past 35 years has focused on issues of health in the African American community. Their partnership with this organization instantly expanded their reach, developed additional partners as well, ensured the realization of the desired outcomes of a food supply chain connecting both rural and urban communities in different regions of the country. BCFSN’s network expands over 190 churches across the U.S.
