WomenLead Scholarship recipient Preeya Ninan is partnering her passions of both business and faith through her plans to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration this fall at the Yale School of Management. With an undergraduate degree in Economics, Preeya will take what she’s learned to apply problem-solving and structural thinking to tackle humanitarian response issues.

“I am inspired to pursue business as a vessel for societal change because I believe that strategic leadership, paired with a deep and empathetic concern for equality and justice, holds the power to create impactful change,” Preeya says. “Especially as a woman of color, I believe in the importance of diversity in business leadership and the power of my perspectives in regard to current societal issues.”

Preeya also brings her experience serving her local church, Long Island MarThoma Church, which practices a denomination founded in Kerala, India. As a board member, she worked to increase church-wide retention by providing an English service every Sunday to reach a wider demographic and crafting a vision statement for the organization.

Upon graduation, Preeya plans to enter the nonprofit sector and work with an organization focused on humanitarian response movements that improve the lives of women and underrepresented populations. In the future, she would also like to pursue a theology degree.

“I am so grateful to have been chosen to receive this award – it is both an incredible blessing and a reminder that our unified hope to see love and justice forms the foundation of our society,” Preeya says. “I appreciate and thank the donors for their involvement in seeking diverse leadership, and for the change this award has made in my education and career!”

The Chris Andersen WomenLead Scholarship recognizes the need for diverse leadership in ministry, nonprofits and civic organizations and seeks to accelerate the extraordinary leadership of diverse women of faith to lead change by using their talents to educate, advocate and activate.

Donors have the opportunity to create their own scholarship fund, make a grant to our Field of Interest Fund in Education from their donor-advised fund or give directly to their church’s endowment fund.
